About your car insurance cover

No matter which vehicle you’ve booked, or if you’re using it for business or personal use, our comprehensive insurance for hire cars means we’ve got you covered. To be eligible, you must be 25 and have held a full UK driving licence (we also accept bookings from EU licence holders) for at least 24 months. 

The conditions under which our comprehensive insurance will cover you while driving a Zimbl vehicle are as follows:

  1. That you are over 25 years of age.
  2. That you have held a UK or EU drivers license for at least 24 months.
  3. That you have no more than 6 points on your license.
  4. That you have not been disqualified from driving during the last 36 months.
  5. That you have don’t have any of the following offence codes on their license (subject to DVLA License Check):
  1. Theft or unauthorised taking UT
  2. Drink or Drugs DR or DG
  3. Dangerous Driving DD
  4. Driving whilst disqualified BA
  5. Driving whilst uninsured IN
  6. Accident Offences AC
  7. Careless Driving CD
  8. Licence Offences LC30-50
  9. Miscellaneous MS50-90
  10. Mutual Recognition MR
  11. Special Code/Totting Up TT
  1. That you have not had your insurance declined and/or renewal refused and/or insurance or cover cancelled by any motor insurer
  2. That you are not engaged in any of the following occupations:
  1. Professional sportsman or sportswoman
  2. The entertainment or theatrical profession
  3. Racing or gambling
  4. Foreign Armed forces or Foreign Embassy
  1. That you have not been involved in more than one fault incident within the last 3 years.
  2. That you do not have a current criminal conviction which is not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
  3. That you will not be using the hire for carriage of passengers or goods for hire and reward including ride-hailing &/or food delivery within the GIG economy &/or any carriage of goods or persons for any form of profit or remuneration.
  4. The hire vehicle can only be driven by the person who has completed a rental agreement or lease agreement for the period of cover concerned, unless off-hire has been agreed and is included in your schedule.
  5. The Vehicle can only be driven by a person who is a British or EU citizen
  6. The vehicle cannot be used for any illegal purpose or in contravention of any legislation affecting you, the Driver, the Vehicle or its use;
  7. The vehicle cannot be used by any person under the influence of alcohol, hallucinatory drugs, narcotics, barbiturates, other illegal drugs or any other substance (whether legal or illegal) that is either unlawful to use or drive under the influence, or which otherwise is liable to impair that person’s driving ability;
  8. You cannot carry more passengers than is recommended by the Vehicle’s manufacturer;
  9. The vehicle cannot be used to give driving lessons;
  10. The vehicle cannot be used for off road use, on gravel roads or roads that are unfit for motor vehicles or where the surface or condition of it involves risks for the tyres or for the underside of the Vehicle or for the Vehicle itself, such as beaches, forest paths, mountains, etc.;
  11. The vehicle cannot be used to push or tow another vehicle or trailer (except where the Vehicle is already fitted with a tow-bar when the maximum load stated and must not be exceeded);
  12. The vehicle cannot be used to carry flammable and/or dangerous or hazardous substances, toxic, harmful and/or radioactive products or those that infringe applicable local laws and regulations, or to transport goods with a weight, quantity and/or volume in excess of what is recommended by the Vehicle’s manufacturer and all other applicable laws and regulations (all liquids must be carried in secure containers);
  13. The vehicle cannot be used for racing, off-roading, reliability trials, speed testing or to take part in rallies, contests, or trials, wherever they are located, official or not;
  14. The vehicle cannot be used to transport live animals outside of a pet carrier (with the exception of Assistance Dogs, subject to our prior written consent);
  15. The vehicle cannot be used for hire or reward if the Vehicle exceeds 3.5 GVW unless a valid Operator’s Licence is held; or
  16. The vehicle cannot be used for commercial use if the Vehicle exceeds 3.5 GVW unless a valid Operator’s Licence is held;

Repairs and Damages

Any and all damages incurred while the car is under hire, including but not limited to:

  • Paint Scratches of any kind, depth, size or severity
  • Dents, Dings, Bumps, Ouchies to any part of the vehicle.
  • Panel damage of any kind.
  • Damage to the tyres, rims, wheel arches 
  • Chips, cracks or scratches to any glasswork or window
  • Any and all interior damage or staining
  • Damage to any mechanical, electrical or battery component.

Will be charged to the recorded payment method of the hirer.  The hirer is liable to pay for any damages to any vehicle while it is under hire, even if they are not in the vehicle at the time the damage is inflicted.
